Practice With

Jazz Drumming & Comping 2.0

Welcome to this lesson which covers linear strategies to some triplet rhythms to add to your personal swing vocabulary! The main approach here is taking a simple reading text, and interpreting it in two different Keys (A – 1st and 3rd Triplet, B – 1st and 2nd Triplet) all lead by the cymbal. Filling in the gaps with some quiet notes on the snare drum completes these patterns.

By incorporating these within your usual time playing, you will explore some new options for variation without necessarily encountering more challenging coordination concepts. As always, simple is not always easy, and use these patterns tastefully. Have fun swingin’!
