In the first ‘Practice With’ session with Anika Nilles, the topic of focus here is some coordination exercises on the pad based on triplets. You will be alternating between a base pattern of a shuffle (RLR) or single strokes (RLR LRL) and various patterns based on the subdivisions and grouping possibilities. The idea here is to practice getting a very tidy sound with no flamming between the hands. Of course, these patterns can later be carried over to the drumset, but starting out on the pad allows you to really focus on the coordinative aspect of it, before thinking about the sound and tone production at the kit.
