Clave Independence … We’ve all seen a crazy drum solo in which the left foot is playing some form of Clave while the other limbs are expressing very freely over it. How does one get started with such a demanding concept? In this lesson Claus introduces us to the idea of combining both sides of the 2:3 and 3:2 Son Clave with two limbs at the same time. This creates a phrase which is much more easily grasped, and makes it very accessible to introduce rhythmic structures coming from your other two limbs. Two exercise formats are presented in this lesson, giving you plenty of challenging exercises to sink your teeth into. Furthermore, some suggestions for further study are also covered.
