For any musician, but particularly us drummers, understanding and keeping track of time is essential for finding flow within your sound. When looking to strengthen one’s internal pulse, the spoken rhythms of South Indian music can be extremely helpful with the stunning range of time cycles that thisl music has to offer.
In this practice session Claudio Spieler takes us through a selection of rhythmical formulae which are structured as interesting geometric shapes within the music. The main focus of this session is the 5-beat cycle Khanda Jathi Eka Tala (5/4) with Khanda Chapu Tala (5/8) also making an appearance towards the end.
