This course will both clarify ever-present questions like the spacing of strokes (on drag rudiments e.g.) and also add further and deeper understanding with regards to questions of authentic interpretation at the same time. We will discuss historic aspects, grip, and technique, dive into the details of the patterns, make you aware of challenges, help you structure your learning process, and guide you through the minefield of misconceptions. One important reason in the creation of this course was the aspect that the sources to learn about this field of studies are rather limited.

In this lesson you will learn the Flammed 5-Stroke Roll, one of the patterns needed to perform the complete piece of the “Morgenstreich”. Traditionally, the rudiment is mostly played leading with the right hand and appears in various dynamic settings, from piano to forte and also crescendo structures.
In this lesson you will learn the Doublé – a very typical Swiss rudimental phrase. The pattern is also known as “Coup Anglais”, in American rudimental drumming the structure can also be found as “Inverted Flam Tap”, “Tap Flam” or (in older sources) as “Flam & Stroke”.
In this lesson you will learn another popular final stroke using a 7-Stroke Roll. Again, all strokes can be imagined on a grid of quintuplets, doubling the second, third, and fourth position of the five.
In this section, you will learn about the Reveille Stroke or “Tagwachtstreich” (or “Tagwacht” in short) – a very typical Swiss/French pattern that was also exported to the “New World” and became Double Drag Tap.
